3rd Annual New Milford Cornhole Championship Announcement

It is time to announce the 3rd Annual New Milford Cornhole Championship being held in New Milford, CT, but before I do, I want to make sure I address some items from last year’s event as we look ahead to this year.

First off, the boards. We will be treating the boards with Flex Seal Clear before the tournament starts, halfway through the group stage, and again before the elimination rounds occur. There will be a 15 minute break at all of these times to allow the Flex Seal to dry properly. This should prevent the issues we saw with the bags sliding too much.

Second, this is a charity tournament so not everything will go as planned, BUT, I do understand that we all take things seriously. That being said, if you sign up with a partner and that partner has to leave during the group stage, you can find a replacement partner to play out the group stage, but you will not be eligible for the elimination round. If your partner leaves before the elimination rounds begin and you would have advanced, your spot will be forfeited and the next qualifying team will be awarded the spot. Essentially, your team of two has to play every match to be eligible.

Third, and maybe the most important. The date. We’ve gotten lucky the first two years with beautiful weather but this year we are announcing a rain date. The 3rd Annual New Milford Cornhole Championship will be held this year on Sunday, September 29, 2019 and will have a rain date of Saturday, October 12, 2019. We are still finalizing the venue but it appears that we will be back at John Pettibone School in New Milford, which was the site of the inaugural championship in 2017.

We will again be supporting the Animal Welfare Society in New Milford. They have been a staple in our community for more than 50 years, are currently expanding to allow more room for dogs and cats in need. In an effort to make this all about community, you will see on your entry submission that there is a row for you to enter a 501c3 charity. At the championship, we will take all the official charities submitted and one will be selected to receive $500.

One last note. We will be again looking for various sponsors to help offset the costs and bring more money to the Animal Welfare Society. As always we are looking for board sponsors, volunteer shirt sponsors, and this year, a koozie sponsorship. Please reach out if you’re interested in any of these!
